At last, something other than concert photography!
I got a cheap 58mm Helios 44-2 from Moscow yesterday, and took some pictures to get a feel for its qualities. Unfortunately the focus ring is stuck, but apparently that’s a common problem and not too difficult to mend. I’ll have to get handy over Christmas. Until then, the look of the out-of-focus areas was the reason I wanted it anyway.
The Helios 44 is a Soviet copy of the Carl Zeiss Biotar, the blueprints of which they took from a plant in eastern Germany after WW2.
